This is the second installment of the "Burn" albums. Chapped Lips aka Lip Burns. To some it might be a metaphor meaning the lyrics and poetic words expressed on this album's songs are explosive, deep rooted and inundated with witty word play, meaning and creativity. To others this album may just be another rag tag attempt at sounding different when in reality the subject matter is no different than everyone else AND is a total contradiction from one song to the next.

While the creator of this album may claim their "skills" on the mic are above average, there tons upon tons of rappers who can easily contest the validity of this claim. They are waiting outside the club watching from the glass window pane, somewhere by the bar sipping a long island iced tea (their 5th one tonight, not even buzzing yet), perhaps in the front row of the show taking up as much space as possible to make it be known they just are not feeling Jorge Burns. Better yet, they could be sitting at their computers desk eagerly anticipating the time and place they can download this album completely free of charge, only to later broadcast to the world what a horrible piece of shit it really is....

But I digress, CHAPPED LIPS is not some righteous compilation of manifested thoughts and expectations for the human race, nor is it some random attempt to sound "hip" for the kiddos and club poppers.

This album is more like the feeling one gets when the January chill sets in the Pacific Northwest. You're waiting at the school bus with your winter coat on, the wind is crisp and biting and you almost feel like you cannot wait one second longer for the bus. The fingers are numb and the clouds are gray. Top that off with your lips are crazy chapped and the best thing in the world right now would be a squirt of blistex or carmex right across the lower jab. You dig in your pocket and find an old stick of Burt's Bees and proceed to spread the moisturizing ointment right on those lips....

Now exhale....ahhhh, you feel it don't you.

It's called relief.

Hopefully this album is a relief to true Hip Hop fans who like to hear creative lyrics and rhymes over underground beats. Jorge Burns has been involved in the Pacific Northwest music scene in some shape, form or fashion since the late 1990s. Regardless of the fact his success in this industry has amounted to a few free pitchers of beer or a couple dozen shows, the struggle continues.

Mr. Burns chooses not to saturate his time fighting the thousands of other qualified artists in the industry trying to stake a claim on an already crowded (watered down) platform, nor does he wish to scratch and claw for a 30 minute set "free of charge" in a region where the club owners totally bamboozle the local artist. He doesn't tour world wide, biding his time for a miracle record deal or some kind of national exposure. NO!

Instead he continues to be a hungry, devoted, passionate and determined artist with a love for music and art. This is the type of love that doesn't need a big paycheck or a bunch of fair weather fans to validate the blood, sweat and tears. This is the type of person who would rather stay true to themselves and make the music they love over making the latest fad just because it will sell more records.This is love of music. To be driven and embody the spirit of creation. To support music locally and world wide, but more importantly to respect originality.
The Puget Sound is an area loaded with talented musicians, lyricists, producers and more. Hopefully you can appreciate the output from Jorge Burns in this twisted version of reality we live in during the 21st century.
